As a parent, teacher, past Board of Education member and current Co-Chair of the Hampton-Scotland School Readiness Council, I have the skills, experience, and perspective necessary to do the job.

Candidate Statements for Region 11 Hampton BOE

**UPDATE: Congratulations Mr. Askew. George was elected by the assembled members of the town with no opposition.

Here are public statements from the two declared candidates for the Region 11 Board of Education candidates. The Annual Town Meeting is Monday June 11 at 7 pm. Don't forget Pie Social before hand!

Follow this LINK to read the meeting agenda.

George Askew

I first learned of the District 11 School Board vacany when I was asked for suggestions to replace retiring member Sharon Wakely, who deserves a very big "Thank You" for her efforts as a board member of ten years! I began to think of how I might help and decided to become a candidate.

Congressman Joe Courtney Gets Key Committee Assignments

From the New London Day:

"Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, was named Tuesday to the House Education and Labor Committee, after a campaign in which he repeatedly criticized the Republican Party's policies on school funding and student aid. . . .
Courtney's position on the education committee will put him in the midst of a brewing debate over the proposed reauthorization of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, he said Tuesday in an interview in his office on Capitol Hill. . . .
