"Should the Town of Hampton apply, pursuant to General Statutes section 10-63a et seq., to the Regional School District No. 11 Board of Education, to institute a procedure for withdrawal of the Town of Hampton from Regional School District No. 11."

New Non-Discrimination Policy

The Board of Selectman at the September meeting passed a non-discrimination policy. The issue came up as part of the contracting process in the restoration of the Hampton Grange.

"RESOLVED that the Town of Hampton hereby adopts as its policy to support the nondiscrimination agreements and warranties required under Connecticut General Statutes:

The Town of Hampton ...(has a policy of)... nondiscrimination against persons on account of their race, color, religious creed, age, marital or civil union status, national origin, ancestry, sex, mental retardation, physical disability, or sexual orientation."

During the 2 years I have served on the Board of Selectmen with Maurice Bisson, we have built a strong working relationship based on trust and understanding. At his request, I regularly attend many committee, commission, and board meetings. It is my hope that we can continue working together to move existing initiatives forward. Some of these include: building the town garage, getting road repair 'back on track', installing solar panels to power all town-owned buildings, and managing a more cost-effective transfer station.

My husband, Mack, and I arrived in Hampton in April of 2005. We relocated from Rhode Island to Hampton after being lured by the beautiful setting, the prospect of experiencing small town, rural New England life, and the opportunity to do some vegetable gardening. Hampton has been everything we envisioned, and more.

Now that we have had a chance to live in the community for a period of time, I am interested in becoming involved in local government. I think the Selectmen -Town Meeting format of government is an exciting privilege that we enjoy here in Hampton and I am anxious to participate in a significant way. My attendance at several town meetings has highlighted for me the critical issues Hampton faces and convinced me of the opportunities for improved information to, and inclusion of, our townspeople as we address these issues.

I first learned of the District 11 School Board vacany when I was asked for suggestions to replace retiring member Sharon Wakely, who deserves a very big "Thank You" for her efforts as a board member of ten years! I began to think of how I might help and decided to become a candidate.

A Report on the Primary of 2006

Secretary of State Suan Bysewicz said that she expected no more that 35-40% of voters to turnout on Primary Day, especially in an off year elction. Hampton’s Democrats defied that prediction, with over 63% of all registered Democrats voting in the Primary, many newly made from previously being Unaffiliated.

Registrar of Voters Dayna McDermott said that the polls were busy most of the day, and unofficial checkers from the Town Committee found that many were there to support newcomer Ned Lamont for Senate.
